There are many Rampur towns & villages in India. Here, we refer to Rampur in Uttar Pradesh. This was the capital city of the erstwhile Rohilkhand princely state.
Rampur, located at the heart of Western Uttar Pradesh, with its rich tradition of art and multiple handicrafts that constitute a major source of livelihood, made it an ideal tier 2 city for undertaking city analysis and for livelihood support interventions in the non-farm manufacturing sector. Its connectivity to Delhi on the one hand and the low cost of living with economics distinct from the Delhi NCR region were favorable factors as well. The project enabled the comparison and location contextualization of Rampur with the nearby Moradabad Exports District, the primarily British era Bareilly town, the industrialized towns of Rudrapur in the Udham Singh Nagar District of Uttarakhand and the villages in the Ahichhatra region in the Aonla district: a prominent Gupta Period archaeological site.
